Black History Month Walking Tour

I’m excited about our first walk of 2024!

We will be partnering with the Oral History Institute at Baylor University for the Third Annual Black History Month Walking Tour.

I love this event because the Oral History folks do such a fantastic job updating it each year to include new and different information about the history of Waco with a special emphasis of the contributions and experiences of African-American residents.  My favorite part of the walk last year was listening to a recording of Oscar DuConge, Waco’s first African-American mayor, while standing outside of the City Hall building where he served.  I’m sure this year’s walk will be just as informative and inspiring as our two previous walks!  I hope you will come walk with us!

We have some great walks planned for the rest of the spring as well.  We are still finalizing details, but here is what we have so far. Mark your calendars!

Accessibility: We will be walking mostly on streets and sidewalks, but you should be prepared to negotiate curbs and grassy patches.

Hydration: Please bring your own water.

Dogs: Dogs are welcome, but they MUST be on a leash, and you MUST come prepared to scoop the poop! Also, dogs may not be allowed inside buildings.

Weather/Cancellation Plan: We plan to walk rain or shine, so if it looks like rain, bring an umbrella.
