25th Anniversary of Baylor Lifelong Learning
To Be Celebrated on April 25, 2023
Baylor’s Lifelong Learning will celebrate its 25th Anniversary beginning at 2:00 pm on April 25, 2023 with a reception on the mezzanine of the Mayborn Museum. Members and friends of Lifelong Learning are invited to enjoy refreshments and visit before the program begins in the theater at 2:30 pm.
President Doug Baldwin will host the program of highlights, leader recognition, and the archiving of the organization’s 25 years of records. Jeff Pirtle, Director of The Texas Collection, will speak on “Texas, Your Texas: 100 Years of The Texas Collection.” He will explain what will happen with the many years of the Lifelong Learning group’s minutes, Bylaws, newsletters, flyers, and photos, as well as talk generally about the growing collection of records, photographs, maps, and rare books in The Texas Collection. Notably, the 100th anniversary of The Texas Collection is being observed in 2023.
Past presidents, program administrators, and winners of the Lifelong Learning Excellence Awards will be introduced and acknowledged. A brochure has been created for the event summarizing the history of the organization from its earliest beginnings in the Baylor Office of Continuing Studies and Faculty Development. The first annual meeting of the Baylor Institute for Learning in Retirement was held in April 1998. Over the years, the group moved from Continuing Education to the Baylor Alumni Association to the Baylor Network and finally to its home now at the Mayborn Museum as Baylor Lifelong Learning.
Membership reached the 470 mark in the past year with participants enjoying coffee lectures, courses, shared interest groups, bus day trips, and luncheons. The leadership of the organization is entirely filled with volunteers with over 50 members involved annually as leadership team members, committee members, and course hosts.
